1768 - 1849
In 1979 the painting and journals were bequethed to my father by an elderly church lady along with several other documents belonging to Hiller. She had inherited them from a Hiller descendant as his housekeeper and entrusted them to our father knowing they had importance to the history of the early Swedenborgian church, of which he was a leading minister and church historian.
The documents and picture are also of interest to naval historians and there may be many other interesting connections for people researching family history, Kent local history, ships, lighthouses and much more.
My father corresponded with several Hiller descendants and family history researchers providing photos and copies. In those days before the internet this was a slow and imperfect operation. This site aims to update his efforts by presenting and sharing these documents so they can be appreaciated, reach a wider audience, and help us to piece together the bigger picture of Thomas Hiller's life and works.
